Ok, caught up on WestWorld. Whoof. Ep 4 was a headtrip.

I just did some numbers and it looks like, as long as my sales month keeps going well (and looks like it will), the days of lean will be over middle of next month.

I still have to drive some more this week, even though we don't especially need the money. Because there's a $900 new driver bonus I can trigger if I can get 28 more rides in by Saturday. And I would like to have that money. It'll pay for Mama's trip here.

I like Queen, but I think this will probably suck:

Dude does look like Freddie Mercury though.

huh. I'm sure I'll watch it on cable, but yeah music bio-pics rarely satisfy the way you want them to.

There's a lot of so-called classic rock I love, but I could never get into Queen except for a few songs, so I don't really give a shit.

The couple of Queen fans I know are a funny lot: to them, Queen is not just a band they like, Queen is the greatest thing since sliced bread, Freddie Mercury is the greatest singer in the history of music, Brian May is a genius on par with Einstein because he has a Ph.D. in astrophysics and he built his own guitar and so on. They can be a bit annoying like that.

Nice job on the hustle. Here's to normal economics kicking in soon and start driving wages up. Don't know what kind of bullshit voodoo the powerful are using to have so little unemployment but not be forced to increase pay. But I am not a fan. In my line of work 4-4.5% a year was the norm a decade ago. Now it's closer to 2 and change.

I'm just grateful Lyft even exists. I've talked shit in the past about rideshares, and while I still kinda think the entire "sharing" economy has a whiff of Can't I just pay a pleb to do it for me? I have to admit it saved my bacon.

Tom Wolfe died. I'll remember him fondly for The Right Stuff, Radical Chic & Mau-Mauing the Flak Catchers, and The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test.

I've never cared about his novels, and the last book of his I briefly perused at the bookstore (The Kingdom of Speech, basically an attack on Noam Chomsky, Darwin, and evolutionary biology) was embarrassingly stupid.

    So yeah, mixed feelings.

“A man had a very ugly wife and he didn’t want to have relations with her. One evening he came home and then he saw his friend in bed with his wife, then the man said: ‘He gets to and I have to!!!’"

Democratic Socialists had a very good night in the PA primaries. That's a nice thing.

The Anne Frank pages are neat. I'm already wincing at people complaining they aren't that progressive, but then, she was a barely pubescent child who lived 75 years ago and literally never got to leave the house. I don't know how woke we could expect her to be.

This weekend is the scout campout. I'm pretty stoked for that one, actually. It will be my first campout where I won't be a sweaty, out of breath mess.

Putting ‘White House’ on the resume is less of a boost
But further down in the trenches, two others still working for the administration — and one other who has departed and is still looking — said they’re all worried about how Trump will be perceived by employers on their resumes.

“Not everyone can get a gig at Fox News,” bemoaned a current administration employee considering grim job prospects for jobs elsewhere. “A lot of us are going back home.”

    Tragic.

Nice. Will there be girls? Or is that next year?
  • Jurf_WurburJurf_Wurbur Posts: 2,648
Wellllll, the Cub Scouts were already allowing girls, but year by year. So the first group of girls joined Tiger Cubs (the first year one for really young kids) this year. I don't know that our pack actually got any. Our pack does allow family at campouts, so plenty of kids bring sisters.

The thing where the Boy Scouts are now Scouts BSA starts next year. But Simon won't graduate from Cub Scout to Scouts for two more years.

We've been watching the second season of Handmaid's Tale. Poor Rory Gilmore, to think that she would end up like that...
  • captqitncaptqitn Posts: 1,584
Sure wish I could watch that. Nothing ever goes from Hulu to Netflix, right?
  • captqitncaptqitn Posts: 1,584
I'm wrapping up Season 2 of Gilmore Girls now. Not something I would typically admit to, but you brought it up.

Did you watch The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel? Same writer as Gilmore Girls, actually. Same snappy patter, but very different show.
  • Jurf_WurburJurf_Wurbur Posts: 2,648
This site has a lot of popups and shit, Eric, but it works and you can watch Handmaid's Tale there.

13 more rides before Sunday and I get my $900 bonus. Woot woot.

In other news, I had my faith in humanity partially restored last night. I gave a ride to a middle-aged-ish guy leading an exceptionally drunk young woman (could barely walk) by the hand. I was formulating a plan for telling this guy that I would not be dropping him off with this woman who was clearly hammered past the point of consent. But then the guy says to me, "Sir, I am going to add a second stop if that's okay. After we get her to her place, you can take me back my place where I started." It turned out the guy was hosting a party and this lady was a friend of his sister's. She got too drunk for him to feel okay letting her leave on her own, but he had drank, too, so he hired a Lyft to to take her home, went along to make sure she got in okay, then went back home to his place.

    Nice going middle aged person.

Super sad night for us. A fire broke out in my boys' pennsylvania house while everyone was at A____'s orchestra concert. The beloved family pooch, Cocoa Scruffingtons III, did not survive. Many hearts are broken.

Oh crap. Sorry about the puppy. Was the home badly damaged?
  • captqitncaptqitn Posts: 1,584
I think it was. Not totaled. She said there was some salvageable stuff on the top floor.
  • Jurf_WurburJurf_Wurbur Posts: 2,648
That's just awful. PMAs to your boys and their mom.
  • captqitncaptqitn Posts: 1,584
Thanks Jeff. Yeah, it's all still unfolding. I've never been through a fire, so I'm floundering about not knowing how to help.
