A Tried and True company has pretty nice offices, but no one ever walked into my cubicle, handed me an omelet, and kissed my neck.
    Wait... What?

My new job responsibility is to call students and make sure they're ok and then put their answer on a google doc.

Not a bad gig. No lesson plans or waking up at 5:15 and driving to work in the dark. No teaching. No formal observation. I could get very used to this.

I read in the newspaper this morning that the government, after giving all their attention to the recommendations of the public health experts, was now starting to listen to the economists.

I thought "Oh dear, we're fucked!"

I just have to put my notes online. Since my notes are pretty detailed, and are all already written, 'cause I basically just continuously recycle and update the notes of my past classes, it has been a cinch.

I think this will all tie into the war analogy. We must save the economy! The enemy is the virus. The soldiers are the workers. Workers who are unable to work from home will be sent to the front (back to trains, buses, subways, offices, schools). There will be many casualties, but that's war.

And if the testing remains as limited as it is now, we can keep the number of virus casualties at a reasonably low number.

    And another thing -
If our dictator decides to kill the postal service, mail-in ballots become much more problematic.

I should be trying to learn the next guitar lesson...or exercising.

I sold a bunch of expensive stuff today, which is nice in general but combined with the last month I had, also pretty much insures that I'll have a job indefinitely.

My company is emphatic about not laying people off from my division right now. But with the way things are going in the economy, it seems like a good idea to make sure that if they make lists later in the year that I end up on the good list.

It won’t get you job security, but you’re on my good list.

I'm hypersensitive about job security because of how clear it has become to me that my job is fake and if no one ever did it again starting tomorrow the world would be essentially unchanged.

There are plenty of jobs like that, nothing to be ashamed of. Simon's gotta eat.

Just don't associate work with self-worth. Work is something we have to do to pay the bills and that's it.

I wish we could suspend his presidency over his handling of the virus.
  • Jurf_WurburJurf_Wurbur Posts: 4,046
We couldn't get rid of him for being a Russian stooge and breaking the law to cover it up. How would we get rid of him for simply being bad at his job?

    Suspend the Senate?

I think Trump is losing his mind not being able to golf every weekend. Or who knows. maybe he still does.
  • TrippTripp Posts: 603
But if he is genuinely losing it then bing. 25th amendment.

Warren says she would agree to be Biden's running mate. That plus a little presidential succession and we could still come out of this with a good president.

One fun thing about the pandemic is asking the Trumpians I know, "So... how's your 401K doing?"

S___ works for the public library system. Lately all she had been doing was recording reading time videos for kids here in the house. This week though the library 'volunteered' their employees to help out at MIFA, delivering meals where they are needed. Yesterday she had to take a whole bunch of meals to an old folks home in Raleigh (black folk) and she said there was nobody working the desk, no attendant of any kind so she and her co-worker had to go inside and hand everything out. She was understandably freaked out. And I'm a little pissed that she's being made to volunteer.
  • captqitncaptqitn Posts: 2,767
I'm pretty sure that doesn't count as "volunteering".

Different people have different levels of anxiety about being out, that is some bullshit to force it.

He's such a straight-down-the-middle candidate, I feel sure that he'll go with conventional wisdom and pick a veep from the south or west. But hey, I'll be very happy if he does pick Liz.

Yeah, he's gonna pull a Hillary and choose the female equivalent of a Tim Kaine. Remember Tim Kaine? You don't? That's perfectly normal.
