Between work being slow and baseball starting, my ability to put in a solid eight hours is not strong right now.

So there was a conversation at the guitar forum I frequent about movies with the french foreign legion in them... And, to my amusement, a crank started posting. Here's a sample:
The original SHRINERS with their FEZ hat that began in the early 1920’s in the USA were related to the French Legion in Morocco. They dipped their white hats in the stream of blood in the streets of Merakesh with the slaughtered Christian blood to have a red hat, each with the name of a middle eastern town with an ISLAMIC name. They in their beginning had such strain of hate for ROMAN POPERY that they adopted much of Islamic ideology. In the USA that was eventually eliminated from the SHRINERS concept of thinking and changed to supporting the needy and sick children. The older MUSLIM brotherhood did however have an effect in the beginning. This too was true of thr French Foreign Legion. The KNIGHT TEMPLAR having a disdain for the POPE after they were betrayed in the early 1300’s were the catalyst for the shriners as the animosity of the freemasons and the catholics was very exposed. Praise GOD that is all washed away. It is clear to all concerned that radical Islam is the enemy of all.

I just got this book, a collection of gorgeous B&W photos of brutalist architecture. It's practically a zen object. I can just flip to a random page and see something amazing (and distracting) to clear my head. I think I'm going to leave it at work indefinitely.

    Here's a two page spread:

Nice! I love the retro-futurist look of 50s and 60s modernist architecture. I probably wouldn't want to live or even work in it, but I love the aesthetic. It's like a set for a sci-fi movie! If you ever come to Montreal, you'll have to visit Habitat 67 and the Olympic stadium, where the Expos used to play.

I completely agree. As art objects to behold, they are magnificent. They are often pretty grim and disheartening to actually spend time inside.

Leaving for Portland on Thursday. A couple of months ago I posted on FB that if anybody needed a bassist to hit me up. I got like 6 offers in an hour. One from Alicja Trout which surprised me. That one is still to come I think. Maybe this summer.. a little touring. One was from this guy I barely know who plays in kind of a glam-hair rock band. Passed on that. One was from a friend whose stuff I liked. Very Elliot Smith sounding. Actually went and practiced with them but I passed on that as well. They were just eeehhhhhhh kinda green I guess. Talked about playing 20 shows a year. I was like 'that's a show every other week.' Also there seemed to be a little 2 guitarists rivalry going on.
But I also got an invite from my friend Michael to go to Portland and help him out with some recording. he has a ton of frequent flyer miles and got me a ticket. Been listening to the songs this week trying to absorb them. Kind of a GBV feel to them. Not too complicated. I dig it.
And to cap it off GBV is playing Portland Monday night. I messaged Gillard and got us on the guest list. So I get to see the guys for the first time in like 10 years, maybe more.
The only bad thing is I'm missing out on making some dough working for Stan this weekend but fuggit. Haven't had a proper vacation in a while.

That sounds like an incredible vacation. I've been listening to GBV's latest and it's really good. Should be a fantabulous show!

Speaking of Brutalism, some genius at the MTA decided that the platform at Union Station be painted white. It looks terrible. The white just shows off all the grime. It looks like an abandoned Star Wars amusement park tunnel.

A group of architects banded together and got them to stop, so now its just sitting there 30% done.

US drops largest ever non-nuclear bomb on Isis affiliate in Afghanistan, military says
Asked whether he had authorized the bombing, Donald Trump said: “Everybody knows exactly what happened. What I do is I authorize my military. We have the greatest military in the world and they’ve done a job as usual. We have given them total authorization and that’s what they’re doing and frankly that’s why they’ve been so successful lately.”
Should I post the Benny Hill theme again?

I never forgave that band for kicking Peter Wolf out. They reached the peak of their popularity my last couple of years in high school. I like "Must of Got Lost."

I saw them with George Thorogood and the Rolling Stones in Candlestick Park in 1981. A big chunk of people left after the J. Geils Band's set. Not tons of people, but enough to notice. I remember my 18 year old brain trying to figure out why they'd leave before the Stones played.

I also remember being left less than satisfied with the Stones' show. It went something like,"Wow, that's the Rolling Stones!...I'm not really digging this show very much...Wow, that's the Rolling Stones!"

Sorry Moe, sometimes I forget that the internets can be used for things other than pet videos, porn and spreading bullshit.
