I want to throttle them all. I made the mistake of looking at some comments this morning. It made me hate our world. I have to go back to my strict no-comments rule.
Me, to cousin: I have gained back some of the weight. I'm not exercising. I used to work next to a string of trails and hike everyday on my break. I stopped when they moved my office. Cousin: But don't you have a new job now where you work from home? And you live next to the forest preserve? Me: Oh... yeah.
I'm curious to see how many seats the SNP got. If they got a clear majority in Scotland, and the UK brexits the fuck out of the EU, I'll wager a soggy cheerio against a six-pack of top suds they'll have another independence referendum, and that this time they will win it.
By the way, in my opinion, anyone who tries to draw any conclusions from what happened in the UK top the US is full of shit. Totally different political system and political context! Sure, the leaders of both countries are demagogues, but that's about it.
In brief, Brexit split the Labour coalition and didn't split the Tory coalition. There was never a perfect strategy for dealing with that. I have no great love for Corbyn personally, though his treatment by the media has not exactly been even handed (euphemism!), even from the parts of the media that are supposed to be (the Guardian, for instance).
Anyway, the UK elected the most rightwing government for decades, they've handed a clown with no principles such a massive majority that it could take a decade to get rid of him. Last night was bad. The worst is yet to come.
Those who play that game of political comparisons between the US and the UK do so in order to project their own biases into it.
For instance, some US commentators (coughmoderate democratscough) blamed Labour's losses on their move to the left... But see, the British Lib Dems are the "centrist" party, politically somewhere between Labour and Tory. Well, they did dismally. Sure, Labour did badly, they lost about a fifth of their old seats... But the Lib Dems lost nearly half of their old seats. So what's the lesson here, eh? :-@
I'm fairly frustrated that in the US, it turns out that given enough time, we can once again come up with made up reasons why the female candidate cannot be trusted.
In more upbeat personal news, had a great days with A___ and E____. Went to a German christmas village, ate brats, drank "smart" hot chockies and eye'd the fair maidens in renaissance bodices.
Then we went to see Eddie Palmieri. I consider him to be the greatest living pianist. To get my boys right up front in dinner club to see him was the freaking best.
Also he was recording the set for an album next year, so I'm hoping my hollering will be on there.
Favorite record was that Replacements reissue. Favorite new records were Purple Mountains, Andrew Bird, Big Thief. Favorite movie was Parasite. Favorite show was Watchmen. Favorite article of impeachment was the second.
I actually really loved this entire album. It's an all female supergroup with two mainstream country singers and one alt country weirdo. It didn't get any airplay because it turns out country radio doesn't want to hear a DGAF divorce record from three feminists.

Remember this?
Sour grapes, I think.
