There are rumors that Mayo Pete is quitting, which must be music to the ears of a certain ex-VP.
  • LefunesteLefuneste Posts: 8,009
Now I'm going to put on my pundit hat and opine: Buttigieg dropping out definitely might help some candidates and hurt some others. Or the other way around.

    Have you seen 13 Assassins?

Hey everybody, just back from church.

Yes the Biden win and the Pete drop out are both bad harbingers for the progressive candidates.

Hoping for a true "super" Tuesday tomorrow.

I always thought Wreck was the most pavement-y thing we did. Dave added some white noise keyboards that, if memory serves correctly, was a straight-up conscious rip-off of something kinda pavement-y. Other than that I don't think the comparisons hold much water. What always pissed me off was the way some writers came to a conclusion that we heard pavement and decided to ape them which was not the case ever or at all. ... except for Wreck.

Also been kinda worried about Sanders because Trump seems to want to run against Bernie. So he must think Bernie will be easy to beat for obvious reasons. Socialist/communist whatever. Other people saying Bernie's plans are too ambitious and he won't be able to pull them off. The thing is I don't really care if he can implement his plans. I just want Trump gone.

And if the black folks want Biden that's something to consider as well.
  • captqitncaptqitn Posts: 3,629
If we don't implement the Green New Deal or something equally as ambitious, humanity will suffer greatly and then die out. I think and most environmental groups think Bernie is the one most likely to kick start it.

I will vote for Biden, but only for the purpose that it would be nice to have less racism and stupidity on TV while the planet around us burns to the fucking ground.

Ha, and yes there was plenty of that going around back then. Our big Village Voice piece was headlined "Bowie + Pavement"

I can tell you this: I've been listening to a lot of Unwound lately and they don't sound like Pavement! Nor do they sound like the Grifters. But they sound more like the Grifters than they sound like Pavement.

    Am I clear enough?

Tomorrow is the big day! We'll have a much better idea of were things are going next Wednesday. Anyone voting tomorrow? Ev? You've already voted, right?

And Klobuchar is out. There are rumors that Mayo Pete and Klobuchar are going to endorse Biden. I suspect that the possibility of administration jobs was mentioned...
  • moetownmoetown Posts: 3,278
Hopefully, their supporters will defy them.

Come on, O'Rourke, Klobuchar and Mayo Pete are all schmiberals so, basically, they want to party as if it was 1999. They would never endorse Sanders. Barring a miracle (I don't see either Bloomberg nor Warren going anywhere), it looks like it's going to be Sanders versus Biden.

    Go Bernie go!

I'd say Pete had a blend of instincts depending on what issue was at hand.

I guess I thought he'd break left if forced to.

I based that opinion mostly on the fact that very early in his political life he referenced The Clash's Clampdown. I thought he "got it".

    ah well.

Musical taste is not a good way of ascertaining someone's politics. I learned that the hard way: sometime ago, I got friendly with a guy who was really into The Minutemen. And then I realized that he was a wingnut. He loved the Minutemen, but I'm quite certain the Minutemen were pretty much against everything he stood for.

I continue to scratch my head at the Bernie Bros thing. I have enough distrust of how awful people are online and how dudes are the worst to mos def believe people who describe their bad experiences with Bernie Bros. But that's anecdotal. What is the bigger picture?

I primarily follow politics online through grassroots political organizers. And those folks--substantially female, heavily POC, not at all douchey bro types--are where most of the advocacy for Bernie I see in my world comes from.

In my case, I like Warren a smidge better but it's her supporters who are turning me off. I mean, you're in favor of dismantling the oligarchy and establishing universal employment and healthcare unless someone online is rude to you? Or unless the person acting as spokesperson for said beliefs is crusty and lacking in charm instead of wish fulfilment walking?

Who gives a fuck? Are we electing class president or actual president?

I'm so tired of the politics of personality. Who has the movement? Who is going to get important systemic shit DONE?

There is something very telling to me how rarely Bernie people invoke him as a personality and how often they describe a movement and in how frequently Warren supporters talk about her as an icon and their feelings for her personally.

I mean, if Bernie's people are all white dudes who hate women, why do all we like AOC so fucking much? Why do we overwhelmingly like Omar and Tlaib and Pressley?

As far as I can tell, Biden is dominating in all the states the democrats will almost certainly lose in November. L-)

    About the Bernie Bros thing:
Nutpicking is the fallacious tactic of picking out and showcasing the nuttiest member(s) of a group as the best representative(s) of that group — hence, "picking the nut".
As I said before, whoever wins the nomination will be battered by a tornado of bullshit from the nomination up to November. I think that Sanders will whitstand it better than Diamond Joe, in part because Sanders already has plenty of experience putting up with it.

Yeah, from the best I can tell, the Bernie Bro myth was created in 2016 as a way to paint the whole movement misogynistic. But once it entered the conversation, it's like when you go shopping for a particular brand of car like VW and the rest of the day you notice EVERY SINGLE VW on the road and it feels like they're everywhere.

So every time you see an asshole talking about Bernie you mind goes "oh hey, there's a name for that, I know what that is". But when an asshole is talking about Biden, there's no special moniker, so you just think "what an asshole"

Thank you for attending my TED talk.
