Regarding the unexpected victory of Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez... It seems that, according to pundits and moderate democrats, democrats must never upset voters who never vote for democrats. Eh.

I'm just making fun of all the concern trolling regarding a possible lurch to the left of the democratic party.

The world cup is down to the last four teams. Next games will be France vs. Belgium and England vs. Croatia. I'm rooting for the Belgiums and then the Croatians. I hope the final will be Belgium vs. Croatia, simply because neither teams have won the world cup ever.

Sounds like a good enough reason to me.

U.S. Opposition to Breast-Feeding Resolution Stuns World Health Officials
American officials sought to water down the resolution by removing language that called on governments to “protect, promote and support breast-feeding” and another passage that called on policymakers to restrict the promotion of food products that many experts say can have deleterious effects on young children. When that failed, they turned to threats, according to diplomats and government officials who took part in the discussions. Ecuador, which had planned to introduce the measure, was the first to find itself in the cross hairs.

The Americans were blunt: If Ecuador refused to drop the resolution, Washington would unleash punishing trade measures and withdraw crucial military aid. The Ecuadorean government quickly acquiesced. The showdown over the issue was recounted by more than a dozen participants from several countries, many of whom requested anonymity because they feared retaliation from the United States.

Health advocates scrambled to find another sponsor for the resolution, but at least a dozen countries, most of them poor nations in Africa and Latin America, backed off, citing fears of retaliation, according to officials from Uruguay, Mexico and the United States.

Soooo... Did he choose the asshole or did he choose the other asshole? Probably the asshole, right?
  • Jurf_WurburJurf_Wurbur Posts: 5,492
He chose the asshole who says there is no legal basis to pursue criminal charges against a sitting president.

Which I'm sure is ENTIRELY COINCIDENTAL.

You know, a turd would be a better candidate than that asshole. And the reason why a turd would be a better candidate is because a turd cannot cast a vote. If a turd was to become the ninth Supreme Court justice, most major decisions would be deadlocked for the foreseeable future. That would be a vast improvement over what you’ll get if that asshole becomes a surpremo.

People can make all the noise about it they want, but there’s little we can do except watch it happen. I’ve spent most of the summer in bed because there doesn’t seem to be much of a reason to be awake.

And Croatia has beaten England 2 to 1, second goal during extra time. It's going to be France vs. Croatia for the final next sunday, which I think is fine. I want the Croats to win, but if France get it, I won't mind.

Hoax paper published in predatory journal purports to show that butt-wiping hand is correlated with one’s politics
We recruited our participants from a leading UK political in- stitution referred to colloquially as ‘Houses of Parliament’. All par- ticipants were well-known political figures, and included Boris Johnski, Teresa Maybe, and Placido Domingo.

Hey Moe, Don’t feel bad I’m Ms. Sunshine ha! I’ve been a lot better depression wise but I’ve been going out with a friend I’ve known forever and not taking anything serious just by day by day friends with benefits. He broke up with his long time gf and baby momma. He has a kid that’s 4 so I’m not serious or anything just having fun with someone I have a lot in common with. He’s a musician. And I’ve raised my two boys and enjoy being an empty nester

So what’s everyone doing this weekend? It’s hotter than fuck in Indianoplace and I have window ac units and the downstairs unit is going out so I spend most of the time in my room where the good ac is and take my laptop. I will probably stay in and listen to albums and watch the Cubs and Pacers Rookie League or the 3 on 3 tournament of retired nba stars

Sorry to Bother You is profoundly fucking weird.

I kinda thought it was going to be a social satire. And I guess it is, but it's also a surreal sci-fi WTF fest.

I'm still processing my own thoughts on it, as my reaction last night was dominated by the realization that by taking Matilda with me to see it, I had burned an extraordinary amount of Spouse Patience Points. It was really and truly not her jam.

One of the great things about Ocasio-Cortez's leap into prominence is that it's nice to see the torch for Democratic Socialism passed to a woman of color. I say this both because I think intersectionality is the key to making that ethos work and because it's nice to be able to express my interest in Socialism without it being taken as proof that I just don't like women. That "Bernie Bro" horseshit really grated on me.

Apparently, president shit-fer-brains told Theresa May, PM of the UK, that she should "sue" the European Union rather than negotiate.

France beat the Croatians 4 to 2.

They sure nuff did. I was also rooting for the Croats after watching them scrap it out on their way to the finals.

Ah well, the boys were rooting for France (mom is french) so I was glad for them.
  • LefunesteLefuneste Posts: 8,009
I wasn't rooting for anyone. Well, I was rooting for Portugal, but they lost to Uruguay. I kinda wanted the Croats to win, but only because they never won before, but I wasn't into it.
