Ocasio-Cortez continues to say the right thing. I saw her on tv saying something to the effect of saying that the American left needs to remember it can vote for who/what it wants, instead of merely who/what it thinks can win.
We saw the Charles White retrospective at the Art Institute this weekend. If it comes your way, don't miss it. It's a stunner. A humanist making art reinforcing the basic humanity of people of color, poor people, and the disenfranchised doesn't really need extensive placards explaining his stuff in 2018. It hit pretty hard. Amazing color in his paintings, jaw-dropping depth and infinite gradation in his black and white works. Highly recommended.
Well TLC was fucking SWAAAMMMPED. We had to stand way back in the tippy top. But that also meant that the lines for crabs and bbq were super duper long too.
We heard the majority of the set while standing in line for tacos. They sounded good. They skipped the rappy parts altogether (classy) and the bass player was a fretless monster.
Saturday night went out to see Animal Collective. Normally I would not have done the drive (I despise coming in DC on the weekend) but homeboy Brad is their tour manager, and I wanted to give him a squeeze.
They did a very different show. Just Avey Tare and Panda Bear with accoustic guitars, a single floor tom and mics (with effects).
It was astounding how much sound they produced with just that. (the acoustics of the Lincoln Theater helped). Their uncanny ability to lock together their voices (both tonally and rhythmically) was on full display.
I really like them, but am not a devotee, so I would've been fine with a 45 minute set (instead of nearly 2 hours) but overall they get big points for doing some very unique and making it enjoyable. It's not easy to do both at the same time.
I ended up skipping Mr. Rogers to hang with the fam at a kid's bday party. I had intended on skipping it, then it was pointed out to me that these were the "cool" parents we were hoping to make nice with. So I went. I don't know that we're going to be hanging out on the regular or anything, because I'm not 100% sure our kids actually like each other. But it was nice and I didn't mind being there.

Schmiberalism (my affectionate nickname for the "third way politics" of the 90s) has failed. Its followers in the democratic party should get out of the fucking way and let the progressives have go at it.
My mediation is Monday. The ex is pissed off. Last night she sent me the meanest text I've ever gotten from anyone. I didn't reply, but it fucked up my plan to try to fall asleep before midnight. My sister went out of town again, so I'll be spending most of the weekend hanging out with my mom and worrying about Monday.
Thank you. I'm sure I'll need all I can get. I was hoping that at some point my ex and I could be halfway on friendly terms again. After receiving that text, I don't know if that's going to be possible. I can forgive everything she's said/done, but it seems like her perception of me is that I'm a cruel and evil person who takes joy in her misery. I may be biased, but I don't think of myself as cruel and evil.
She says my goal is to leave her destitute and that she hopes I 'have fun celebrating my victory alone.' Celebrating my victory? What can she be thinking?
It's a shame. These things can take a long time, but it's starting to sound like she's poisoning the well. Saying things that can't be unsaid. And that sucks.
I'm getting a haircut. Possibly even a new hairstyle. In middle-aged man land, this is a big deal and scary. This and I think I'm going to have to take my kid to see the Teen Titans Go Movie.
Ooh, and I'm going to make Filipino food for dinner tonight. There's a filipino grocery near us, so I got some longanisa sausage. Frying that up with garlic fried rice and fried eggs, as a kind of Phillipines breakfast for dinner.
It seems like her perception of me is that I'm a cruel and evil person who takes joy in her misery.
You don't strike me as "evil and cruel", Ev. It's entirely possible that your ex needs you to be an asshole so that she can justify behaving like she's entitled to all your money.
Dan and anyone else I have Oneida live video on Facebook but I’m so tech challenged i can’t share it anywhere else
I’ve went to 3 shows since I was a recluse for all of 2017. 2 of 3 something traumatic has happened and I don’t feel like talking about right now but let’s just say my nightmares came true last night and on July 3. It’s this stupid little city and stupid little music scene.
Kid Millions was soooo badass. If you know them tell him your friend in indianoplace was wearing a Sweet Knoves shirt and he recognized it. Also tell him Joyful Noise Recordings is screwing him out of royalties. We can discuss in email if he wants proof
Show was really good
PMA’s and good vibes headed your way Evan. Live feed was for you Dan on Oneida
The new album by Lucy Dacus is a slow burn, but it's pretty great. It might be good for you, Ev, as it's a breakup record. She's got a great voice and is a fine guitar player too.
It was good. Not knockout, but then, we were making a comfort breakfast: garlic fried rice, fried eggs, and longanisa sausage. We ate that for dinner though. I think I'll likely make it again at some point, but it will need tweaking to get the family enthusiasm level up.

My dad was single when I was between 7 and 10 and I had to play with some godawful hell children (who had attractive moms) in that era.
As an adult, I'm happy to have played wingman for him, but boy did I despise it at the time.
